Engraved obsidian
This is part of a project called Five Laws of Absence. This is an obsidian that I bought in Mexico, and "to be absent is still to be" was the first phrase with which I started this project about the Five Laws of Absence.
This stone is used to look at the eclipse, among other things of course. But Daniela had an encounter with the obsidian looking at the sun, and so she used this as a filter for another series of photos, and this became sort of a transparent mirror. You can see through if the light is strong enough, and if not, you see your reflection. And so, it plays a little bit with this idea because the sound of Perseus, which is another piece, so they are connected, is the black hole that they discovered the sound is actually from the constellation in Perseus. And, and Perseus was the one that was not supposed to watch Medusa, and he actually used a mirror in order to see it. So, there's this contact of the reflection and how not to see through. You cannot look at the sun directly, so you see it through a reflection. This could be used as a filter but also as a mirror. It has all this idea of the absence and when you see yourself and what is to be absent, if it's still to be or not.
