Amy Todman

Biography
Amy Todman is an artist and writer from Scotland based in Beirut. She holds a fine art degree in drawing and painting (first class) from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (Dundee, Scotland), as well as a Masters degree (distinction) and a PhD in art history from the University of Glasgow. She held her first solo painting exhibition in Beirut at Agial Gallery in August 2023, titled 'And the smell of the flowers is everything I don't say' and has exhibited regularly in solo and group exhibitions in the region. She has published a number of chapbooks including Twig (2019), G(love) (2018) and Cover (2014). She works predominantly with painting and poetry, reflecting on the interplay between these visual and worded landscapes. Her paintings draw on a style close to figuration, describing intimate dreamscapes yet tethered by the circadian rhythm of life and light, and the structures and objects of three-dimensional space. Her poetry, most often emerging in relation to her painted works, reflects these concerns in the form of a sparse and deceptively simple verse creating moments of contact between the painted and worded view.
