About

Earth will carry on,

with or without us.

Accounts of the climate crisis usually depict planet Earth, our home, as an unsuspecting victim of the abuses of industrial progress culture. For years, Urmeer has been carrying out a visual investigation focused on designing a cartoonish character with the features of planet Earth. Through different stages, this tender figure has been captured in various scenarios of harassment and abuse. For his show at 15 Beautreillis, however, the Mexican artist offers a preview of a new phase of his project, in which the character adopts a very different attitude.

If you look closely, rather than lamenting and suffering passively, Earth appears willing to fight back against every abuse inflicted by humanity. Whether through mutations in its organisms or climatic cataclysms, the world tends to apply violent rebalancing mechanisms, taking on a defensive guise that translates into hostility toward life as we know it-while making it clear that, with or without us, it will carry on. In line with this vision, Urmeer presents prototypes for a future series of collectible toys in which the world, retaining its feminine identity, adopts cyborg qualities that express its readiness to integrate the harms caused by humanity in order to use them to its advantage in an epic battle of resistance.
